Wekiddy is the ninth version of Incredibox. It was released on April 29th, 2023 on Steam, Android and iOS devices.

Official Description

Full of sweet, sticky ear candy infused with carefree vibes, V9 "WEKIDDY" puts a new take on the 90s, twisting the era into a retro-futuristic banger ball. Throwbacks to the Golden Age of hip hop, homages to pre-Web Pop Culture and nods to previous Incredibox versions rub shoulders in an explosion of colourful styles. Bang your head and dig the flow.

Overview

Wekiddy is one of the most exotic and innovative Incredibox versions released. The ninth version, which has been described as "back to the basics", explores a variety of new concepts such as 90s hip-hop culture, pre-web popular culture and referencing other versions of Incredibox, all of that mixed with vibrant and colorful tastes.

Timeline

2022

• June 1st: The version was announced on all Incredibox social media platforms, with a sketch image of El Cool P and a storyboard of Flow included.
• September 16th: The first teaser was shown, revealing the sound of Swingy, Boo 9 and Memphis.
• October 7th: A work in progress design of Kevin was revealed.
• December 23rd: A teaser was posted on across social media, featuring Kevin, El Cool P and Big Duke full characters and including Boo 9, Arashi and Memphis' sounds. The release date was also confirmed to be in 2023.

2023

• April 24: The unplayable version was added to the in-game lineup, albeit being locked and marked as "Coming soon…"
  • The bonus icons for the version were also spotted in the bonus icon files.
• April 26: A promotional image featuring Doo Doo and Boom Fuzz was spotted inside the Microsoft Store app files, and the coming soon icon is seen.
• April 29: The version was released on Steam.
• May 1: The version was released on other platforms.
• September 15: The single for Wekiddy was released digitally.
• October 9: A teaser for 2nd bonus was posted on Twitter, possibly revealing the combo for it (Boo 9, Kevin, Double K, El Cool P, Lil Blaze)
• December 20th - The second bonus URFO was released.

2024

• November 13th - A teaser for the third bonus was posted.

Trivia

• Wekiddy is in A♭ harmonic major at 95 bpm.
• This is the first version to have a variety of colored sound designs, unlike previous versions where they are all consistent to their respective category.
• This is the fourth version to not have color schemes for each group of sounds, the others being Alpha, Little Miss, and Dystopia.
  • This is the first one of the aforementioned four to have characters have different colors. The reason Wekiddy doesn't have color schemes is because each character is colored regardless of their group, while the other three don't because they use grayscale.
• This is the first version to have proper filenames for sounds.
  • Given the first video teaser, it is possible that this wasn’t originally going to be so.
• This is the second version to contain nods to past Incredibox versions, following Dystopia.
• The first teaser showed the composition name as “teaser swingy - pistes” (translated from French as “swingy teaser – tracks”), possibly hinting that the version could have been named “Swingy”.
  • Swingy was actually the character being shown in the teaser.
• In the official Incredibox V9 tweet, one of the hashtags is “#wicked”. Many people, such as Artemiy Kopych have speculated that this is the name of V9, as the Incredibox team has put version names in hashtags before (like with “#jeevan”).
  • Wekiddy is actually wordplay applied to "Wicked", as both words sound pretty similar.
• On the app preview video we can see the second bonus icon. We can also see that Boo 9 and Kevin are required to unlock it.
• Wekiddy is the first version of Incredibox to have three basses instead of just two or one, with those being M. O. G., Arashi and Big Duke.
• Wekiddy is the first version of Incredibox where one bonus is longer than another bonus in the same version.
• Wekiddy is the second version of Incredibox where 2 Polos (Kevin and Boo 9) are needed for every bonus, the first being The Love.
