V8-Dystopia-Logo

Dystopia is the eighth version of Incredibox. It was released on December 1, 2020.[1]

Official Description[]

Dizzying and hard-hitting, V8 “DYSTOPIA” pumps out a fascinating thrill for your senses! Embrace a dark, cyberpunk fantasy in which technology takes over with 20 new sounds, new beats, melodies, vocals, and effects each with their own original character! Powerful musical distortions, haunting melancholy vocals and clicking, jangling electronic tones epically intertwine to create the perfect sci-fi soundtrack.

Overview[]

Dystopia has acquired an unusual, dystopian style, this time providing us with even more unusual and inhuman sounds and the most original and creative design among all versions of Incredibox. Most likely, the version was created under the impression of the success of the 6th version Alive, as it was very popular with the fans. Continuing the mood of Alive, Dystopia has the same mysterious and dark sounds.

The bonuses in this version tell us the story of a dystopian city consumed by technology and a dictatorial regime, in which the protagonist, Lead, decides to end the cycle by making his way on his shuttle through the chase to the Great Pyramid in the center of the city, having reached, he falls into the energy flow inside the pyramid, thereby putting it out of action, and de-energizing the entire city. These are the longest 3 bonuses in the entire game, and due to their length and plot, it was possible to create a small short film based on them.

So Far So Good has tried to carefully hide the development process, very rarely releasing any posts about the new version, without releasing a single photo of the WIPs of the characters prior to the release of the version. And after the release of the version and the first bonus, the audio files of the other two upcoming bonuses were not added to the application, as was the case with previous versions. Because of that, the version was full of mysteries, and many fan attempts to predict how the character designs in the new version would look like, what sounds would be, and what the next bonuses would show us, no other version of Incredibox has had as much hype and fan content around it as this one.

Leaks[]

Although the development process of this version was carefully hidden, this version was the first to have numerous leaks from the official website of Incredibox. One of these is a file with early versions of icons for bonuses and an early version of the version description for the official site.

An image of the glitch posted on November 13th, 2020 in Artemiy Kopych's Discord server by a deleted user.

On November 13, 2020, at 11:30 am, a glitch was discovered on the official website, where the version selection screen did not look right. Additionally, instead of the actual image file used for version icons at that time (switch-bt.png), the menu buttons featured all 7 versions, including Dystopia. As of 21:28, the glitch was still present on the site, presumably by 21:55 it was fixed. A little later, the position of the “settings” button was also corrected.

The leaked set of bonus icons, notice how all three icons are different from their appearance in the official release.

On that same day, an updated file with images of icons for bonuses (bt-bonus.svg) was found on the site, on which there were new icons for Dystopia. (Subsequently, all bonus icons were replaced with the current ones during the version's release). In addition, a new option “Restore all mixes” was found in the settings.

On November 15th at 6:18 am, the version background (down-v8-artwork.jpg) for the APP tab on the official Incredibox website was leaked. However, the description was used from Jeevan. Later, at 3:00pm
